We have opened our boxed stock of J.Herbin Cire Banque sticks to make them available for purchase by single sticks.

Full boxes of 10 batons are also available HERE

Sticks are 8 3/4" x 3/8" x 1/2" square

15-20 Seals per stick when created with standard 3/4" seal face.
Wickless sticks
Handmade in France
Created with shellac and plant rosins, gums, and oils.

Melt over a flame or in a spoon or melting device.

Not for use with a glue gun.

This line of J.Herbin wax is Old World traditional, it is
not designed to withstand the postal process.
We highly recommend this gorgeous wax for use with hand delivered items, gift wrap, certificates, or to create a seal which will crack upon bending.

If you would like to use a J.Herbin wax for mailing,
we suggest their Supple Wax line.

As this security wax is sensitive to shock, the batons may crack during shipment from France or our studio.
If the batons break into pieces, our melting spoon can easily hold small bits for melting over a flame.

About J. Herbin

J. Herbin Cire Banque is the standard in sealing waxes, and has remained unchanged since 1670.

Generations of remarkable people, from Louis XIV to Coco Chanel, have used this traditional sealing wax, and it is well known around the world as one of the highest quality sealing waxes ever made.

J. Herbin was a sailor, and from his many journeys to India he brought back to Paris formulas for manufacturing sealing wax.
His special lacquer formula improved the quality of the seals in adhesion and neatness, helping him to become famous throughout the kingdom.

Then as today, sealing wax was used for documents and correspondence, but also in decoration and bottling.
J. Herbin has supplied Chanel from its beginning with wax used for finishing touches on their perfume bottles.

Everything I’d been looking for in a wax seal. Had only known the cheaper, wicked-wax before watching Rajiv Surendra’s YouTube channel. Well-worth the investment. This wax, upon use, will turn brittle and will give the recipient a satisfying feel when they break the brittle seal.

Cire Banque is NOT the same formulation as Cire Souple

I was looking to save money on my usual box of "Cire Souple" wax sticks......oh what a mistake!!! I purchased two of these single sticks. BIG MISTAKE... I would not use "Cire Banque" for letters.
The sticks have a very different consistency they sound like vinyl or plastic....when I put them to a flame to melt...the smell was that of plastic, and it meted like plastic....when I applied my brass seal to the molten mass....THIS STUCK TO MY BRASS SEAL. and TORE FROM THE ENVELOPE. Never again...
I will go back to my box of 4 "Supple Wax" sticks.

Thank you!

I received my order carefully packaged with instructions on how to use the wax and also a surprise gift:). I ordered a few single sticks and all the colors are bright, vibrant and shiny. I am considering getting a whole box of the red. Thank you for the great service.

Excellent products

The stamp and ink set is absolutely beautiful, even better than I expected. The design is elegant, and it adds a lovely, personal touch to the letters. It’s clearly made with care and attention to detail.

What really stood out, though, was the kind and helpful customer support. They were responsive, friendly, and made the whole experience feel personal and smooth.

I’m very happy with both the product and the service. Highly recommended!

Thank you

The sealing waxes arrived, thoughtfully and beautifully packed - an instruction manual on how to use them was also included - a thoughtful detail. The sealing waxes are wonderful, in colour and in texture, being a beginner in this firld, I am learning how to use them. Thank you Letterseals - it was a treat to recieve the waxes, to begin using them and to recieve such a nice and thoughtfully wrapped delivery.

The Real Deal Wax

Top quality sealing wax - the best really. If you’re used to sealing wax with a wick, there’s a learning curve but work it for the way the seals crisply snap when opening a letter.

Excellent quality

There is certainly a learning curve to using this wax (ie melting spoon is difficult to clean and holding over a flame will take practice due to high melting point) but the quality of color, smell, and overall finish is unbeatable. The seller also packaged it securely and beautifully.

Can’t wait to use!

Can’t wait to use sealing wax and stamp. I know I will love using them, the only thing is that wax sticks need to be more protected for shipping cause wax sticks were broken and won’t be able to display them like I wanted to.

Thank you for sharing your feedback! I'll endeavor to find a better solution for wrapping to prevent shock breakage.

Don't really like it

The wax melts so slowly that by the time enough has dripped onto the paper to make a seal, it has already started to harden. If I hold the wax closer to my alcohol lamp, it smokes and ignites. The color is lovely; a really dark, rich royal purple.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your review!

Hopefully, you were able to see our notes for using this wax, as well as review our demonstration video for using wickless sticks.

You can find the video here:

The best technique is to soften the wax over your heat source, and then apply the hot wax all at once. The hottest portion of a flame is actually about an inch above it, so this would be the ideal area to hold the wax for the fastest melting.

I hope you find these recommendations helpful if they are new to you.

The color was just as pigmented as the pictures and was larger then I thought!! I got it for my sister as a birthday gift along with a few other items from this shop and she loved it! Would definitely buy again

Love it

This is the best, coolest wax ever. It can be a challenge to use, but that is part of the fun. I just love it. It makes such a clear image and fun organic shapes. I love it.

Poor color and fire hazard

The shipping and processing of my order was fairly rapid. My sticks arrived intact. However I've noticed two things about them.
1. When heating the wax they literally catch fire. Obviously this is more than a small concern as I've discovered that fire doesn't just fizzle out I've consistently had to put it out myself. This happened even when trying to just melt the wax in a melting spoon.
2. I ordered 2 sticks of midnight blue. The seals show zero hint of even the darkest blue once out of stick form, and even in stick form barely have any hint of blue.
I enjoyed the crisp seal achieved by this but the color is poor and quite frankly this product is a fire hazard.

Thank you for your review.
This does raise a point to keep in mind.
Wax is flammable - which is how the wick style waxes and candles work and stay lit. One should not put any sealing wax directly in a flame - but rather near enough to warm the wax and apply the softened wax to ones project. If using a melting spoon, the wax should be melted to a thick honey like consistency over a flame, then removed from the flame and stirred with a toothpick to finish the melting. (we include these directions with each order).
The blue is a midnight blue, rather than navy or royal blue, which is a very deep and dark colored blue.

Sealing Wax - J Herbin Cire Banque traditional sealing wax

I like J Herbin because it cracks when flexed, just as the original waxes cracked. That was the first security system for private messages. Letterseals is reliable and quick with shipping, and their website is easy to navigate. A+

nice to find REAL sealing wax

I use this wax to inlay patterns in the handles of wooden spoons - as was done in the 18th and 19th centuries in Brittany, France. It is a joy to use and gives perfect results

I love this sealing wax

This wax melted so nicely. I just bought a melting spoon and other waxes didn't melt easily but this one is perfect. I'll have to get more colors.
